9 pin miniature preamp tube (Amplification Factor = 100). This Russian tube is full bodied and well balanced. It has a high gain with a very smooth presentation. In overdrive, it is not quite as defined as the 12AX7-S-JJ, but it offers more crunchy fizz.
This is a long plate valve so has a very rich tone. Longer plates result in being more prone to microphonics so it is not a good choice in combo guitar amps. It has a lot of headroom and combined with the rich bottom end and this makes it a superb choice for HiFi amps.
